Tonight. (19th August) I had the pleasure of attending the Oklahoma concert performance at Drury Lane Theatre and it was absolutely phenomenal. The cast was incredibly talented and brought so much energy and passion to their performances. The music was beautifully sung and the choreography was top-notch. The orchestra were just brilliant along with the choir that added that extra special touch of class.
Curly played by Phil Dunster was a natural. He added his own style to the part and added some humour also. Phil did a Stunning performance. Laurey performed by Zizi Strallen was a wonderful dancer and brought the dream sequence to life.
For me the stand out performance was by Joanna Riding who played the best Aunt Eller I have ever seen and I have seen a few Oklahoma’s in my time!
What a wonderfully rich voice did Tosh Wanogho-maud who played Jud. Superb! In fact the whole cast just blended so well together. I am not sure how long rehearsal time was. But for it to be just on for two performances is a waste. More please. Perhaps a tour?
The venue itself was stunning and provided the perfect backdrop for this classic musical. The sound quality was excellent and I was completely immersed in the experience from start to finish. The set design was also impressive and although simple in design with props around the stage. It really helped to transport the audience back to the Oklahoma territory.
Overall, I cannot recommend this concert performance enough. As I said before. Shane it is on for just two performances. It was a truly unforgettable evening and I left feeling completely blown away by the talent on stage. If you have the opportunity to see Oklahoma at Drury Lane Theatre, do not hesitate to grab tickets. But be quick. You have until tomorrow night (Tuesday 20th August)
