Lord of the Dance
Waterside Theatre, (Aylesbury)
(Review Complete)
"Superb dancing, superb music, superb spectacle!"
A true homage to Michael Flatley!
This was the wonderful evening I spend last night in Aylesbury. I have only ever seen Lord of the Dance on television and while it was very enjoyable in that medium, I was not prepared for the incredible experience of seeing it live!
The story of the show is classic good versus evil with the Lord of the Dance representing the good in the world and the Dark Lord representing everything evil. The back projections created some incredibly atmospheric scenes with fire and explosions for the Dark Lord and his army, green trees and waterfalls for the Lord of the Dance and the Little Spirit and wonderful shooting stars for Erin the Goddess as she sings the story.
The dancing was wonderful with some of the men’s incredibly high speed tapping being particularly intense! There were two gorgeous fiddle players, Giada Costenaro Cunningham and Helena Gullan, who added an extra dimension to the story and Celyn Cartwright, who played Erin the Goddess had the most beautiful voice as she sang the story. All in all,
I can’t remember the last time I saw a show that took me through so many intense highs and lows. Unsurprisingly people were jumping to their feet at the end of this wonderful experience!
This wonderful show is on at Aylesbury Waterside until Thursday 17th October but you can catch it around the country at Woking, Bournemouth, Sheffield, Leicester, Wimbledon, Derry, Belfast and Castlebar so if you can get to any of these places you will not be disappointed. Its definitely 5 stars! I’d give it ten if a could!
