A Couple of Swells
Pullman & Stilgoe
(Review Complete)
"Absolute class, from first note to the last"
The strap-line perfectly describes last nights wonderful cabaret
show at The Other Palace Studio.
Liza Pulman of Fascinating Aida fame and Joe
Stilgoe, son of Richard Stilgoe have teamed up to produce a beautiful, funny
and touching cabaret show. They have included a great cross section of songs
from such legendary song writers as Rodgers and Harte, Irving Berlin, Harold
Arlen, Stephen Sondheim Rodgers and Hammerstein, Jerome Kern and coming right
up to date with Elton John among others.
Joe has written some really beautiful songs for Liza to sing and he also
paid tribute to Danny Kaye, one of his childhood favourites, with a very funny
version of The Emperor’s New Clothes.
Liza has a beautiful voice. Her comedic
ability is used to its full extent but she also sings some beautiful, poignant
songs that bring tears to the eyes. Their rapport is clear for all to see and
they obviously enjoy working together.
They are only on at The Other Palace
Studio until this Saturday 26th but there are still tickets if you can get
there. If not, they are on tour around the country so look out for them in
Dublin in December and then Salisbury, Coventry, Eastbourne, Guildford,
Northampton, Bristol, Saffron Walden, Litchfield and Winchester next year.
If
you enjoy classic musical theatre songs and high class comedy then this is a
wonderful heartwarming experience you shouldn’t miss.
