SYNOPIS
This is the classic tale of miserly old Ebenezer Scrooge who is visited by the ghost of his dead partner, Jacob Marley. He tells Scrooge that he will be visited by three ghosts, the spirits of Christmas Past, Christmas Present and Christmas Yet to Come. They each promise dire consequences if he doesn’t change his ways. Scrooge is deeply affected by their messages and when he wakes up on Christmas morning he is a changed man. He realises the error of his ways and with a joyful heart he embraces the Spirit of Christmas.
REVIEW
It’s Christmas! And there is no better way to celebrate the start of the festive season than to see Shitfaced Showtime doing A Pissedmas Carol! For anyone who has never seen this company - and I have, many times, at the Edinburgh Festival - the idea is that one member of the company performs the show each night drunk and everyone else has to try and guide them through to the end without too many disasters!
This obviously involves lots of adlibs and messing around which, last night, was just what the audience wanted! There was a glass of mulled wine and a mince pie included with the ticket and, although Charles Dickens really can’t be classed as a pantomime writer, there were plenty of panto jokes cropping up throughout the show - oh yes there were! The performances were strong throughout with great singing and excellent staging that worked very well on the relatively shallow stage space and Scrooge, the drunk character last night, was excellent.
I can’t tell you which listed actor was actually playing him as he was so covered in facial hair! But he was fantastic! A Pissedmas Carol runs until 6th January and although this is obviously not a show to take your children to, if you can get away for an evening, you will find more Christmas “spirit” here than any other festive treat in London!
