REVIEW
I had the great pleasure of seeing 2.22 A Ghost Story on Tuesday night. This is such a well written play by Danny Robins. It has everything; scary moments that make you jump; some real laugh-out-loud moments; some tense and angry moments and a very clever twist at the end! However at the curtain call they display a sign saying “Ssssh don’t tell” so if you want to know what it is, you’ll have to go and see the play - and I really recommend you do!
The cast are excellent! Jaime Winstone brilliantly plays Jenny, the Mother who is convinced that her baby’s bedroom is haunted. Already on edge and scared, she gets progressively more desperate throughout the play as her husband and friends find it difficult to believe her.
Jenny’s husband Sam, played by Clifford Samuel is gradually converting their house but he has been away and only just got back so he has not experienced the supposed haunting. Samuel plays Sam as a bit of a Joker and the perfect host and he fits this role really well!
Lauren was at university with Sam and they have remained friends ever since. American actress Sophia Bush plays Lauren with increasing annoyance at the boyfriend she has brought to dinner, played by Ricky Champ. Champ absolutely makes the most of the comedy in his role but as things get darker he starts to take charge.
I really loved this play. It had wit, drama and more than a few scares and I loved the fact that there was a digital clock on the wall counting down the time until 2.22! I shall definitely be returning to this play with family members who I know will absolutely love it too!
