REVIEW:
High tension and tremendous acting were on display last night at Milton Keynes in a brilliant production of the tense legal drama Twelve Angry Men!
The play takes place in a locked jury room where the fate of a young man who is accused of killing his abusive Father is being debated. If found guilty he will face the electric chair and his destiny hangs on the choices made by the jurors who are making judgements based on their own experiences and circumstances.
It is very difficult to pick out any one performance as the ensemble playing was wonderful but Jason Merrells who plays juror 8, initially the only one who believes there is reasonable doubt about the boy’s guilt, brings a brilliantly measured stillness to his performance which is in massive contrast to some of the other, more frenetic characters.
Michael Greco, who is known to many for his Eastenders character Beppe di Marco was, however, was starkly contrasting as juror 7.
He was aggressive, angry and convinced of his own opinions and gave a fine performance throughout. I really loved the staging and the set.
It keeps all the characters confined in a small, hot space which adds to the intense pressure as the play progresses.
This play is not staged that frequently and I urge anyone who enjoys theatre not to miss it! I have no hesitation in giving this.
