Technological wizardry made theatrical magic in Wembley last night! It was Starlight Express’s 1st Anniversary in London and what an evening it was! The lighting was amazing, the sound and songs great, the costumes wonderful but most of all the skating was incredible!
I heard that they run a skate school for prospective cast members and that not everyone gets through. It wouldn’t surprise me! The cast, a large percentage of whom were making their debut on the London Stage, were so at home on skates, It was as though they had been born with wheels instead of feet!
There were also two Skate Marshals who were professional scooter riders and the tricks they did absolutely took everyone’s breath away! The Troubadour was also the perfect venue for such a fast action show with so much room for skating the races.
The there was some great singing from the cast, in particular Jade Marvin who played Momma. I was also very impressed with the four girls who played the Coaches, particularly Eve Humphrey as Dinah. This production, unlike the original show, has a child playing Control. It’s a big part as Control is in charge of all the races and is on stage watching the action for most of the show! We saw a very good performance in this role from Shayan Ghai last night.
From start to finish this was a super evening of entertainment with people from 8 to 80 jumping to their feet by the end so if you are looking for a five star show that will wow your senses then look no further than Starlight Express!
