It’s an iconic TV show that is now brilliantly reimagined for the stage by Paul Whitehouse and Jim Sullivan and I absolutely loved it! From the cast singing the Only Fools song at the beginning to the cockney knees up dance at the end, it was just right!
I was astonished at how perfectly the cast recreated the characters from the show! Among a very able cast, I was particularly impressed with Tom Major who played Rodney. He graduated from Arts Educational School last summer and this is his first professional job. It was an excellent performance beyond his years and experience, so note his name and look out for him in the future because he definitely has a great career ahead of him!
Philip Childs was great Grandad who looked and sounded exactly like Lennard Pearce, who was the original Grandad on TV. Craig Berry as Boycie was a fabulous, larger than life, character with that ridiculously loud laugh that immediately made the audience laugh along with him!
I loved Lee VG who played Trigger. His comic timing was great with a gorgeous voice too. Georgina Hagen and Nicola Munns were great as Raquel and Marlene/Cassandra and another favourite was Richard J Hunt as the Dating Agent who was hilarious! Andrew Bryant was on as the cover for Del Boy, which is a difficult part to stand in for, but he did a good job. The set moved seamlessly around as the scenes changed and there was a projected background that was very effective.
All in all I had a fantastic evening and the good news is that its on at Milton Keynes for the next two weeks and there are still a few tickets! So get booking because you won’t regret it! This is a solid gold 5 star show!
