Review

Intensely brilliant show with incredibly talented dancers. Returning after 12 years Ailey 2 is a mix of classic and current creations by Artistic Director Francesca Harper. This second company is a breath of fresh air, they showcase their incredible training and talent with powerful energy and effortless moves. This company have kept Alvin Ailey's vision alive through an evening of soulful captivating excerpts.

Francesca Harper, original company member, has collaborated with a diverse range of choreographers to create the next generation of dance. The show has 4 sections split between 2 intervals. The decision on the order of sections felt spot on, a highly intence start which hightened all your senses grew as the sections went on but the finale of the iconic Revelations softened the senses to take you back in time.

Section one William Forsythe excerpt of 1989 Enemy in the figure involved the whole company. The company consisted of 12 dancers. An opening you won't forget, the rhythmic score created a slightly uncomfortable feeling which left you wanting more. His work played with the use of lighting and shadow to add to the mood of the performance. The dancers moved fluidly showcasing.... technique and strength. Frilled costumes enhanced the dancers fine display of craft and power.
