Review
Yesterday afternoon it was my absolute pleasure to attend the latest offering from the Mischief crowd! I have seen several of the “goes wrong” productions in the past - Peter Pan Goes Wrong, A Christmas Carol Goes Wrong on television and the Bank Robbery that Goes Wrong - and I have always enjoyed them. This, however, is slightly different.
Ostensibly a magic and mind reading show, as you may imagine things don’t go according to plan right from the start. Magic tricks go wrong, the mind reading is more about talking members of the audience round to fit the answers on the cards, and we see that the Mind Mangler’s personal life is falling apart.
Henry Lewis is the Mind Mangler and his timing and slickness are wonderful to watch. There is a Stooge planted in the audience, played by Jonathan Sayer, who is equally funny. He wears several different T-shirts showing who he is throughout the show and the banter between the two of them is hilarious. The stage crew are integral to the show, effortlessly moving tricks around and filming members of the audience.
My two highlights were definitely the ouija board and the spoon bending trick that bends almost everything except the spoon! There are tricks in the show that actually do work and they are excellent! If you are looking for serious drama you won’t find it here but if you are looking for a great fun night out where you may well have aching ribs by the end, then this is the show for you! It’s five star comedy all the way!
