Even though I was probably the oldest “fan” girl in the audience, I thoroughly enjoyed this fantastic musical! It has come over from Australia having been a massive hit in Sydney and it looks like it will be a big hit here to!
The show; script, music and lyrics written by the prodigiously talented Yve Blake; is very funny. The story is clever with a warm message at the end about listening to your teenage children and the music and lyrics are fun and very catchy.
The story revolves around three school girls who are massive fans of Harry, the lead singer with their favourite group, Heartbreak Nation. When the group come to Sydney, the girls can only get two tickets so one girl, Edna, gets left out. What occurs when Edna tries to get involved with the concert is both chaotic and hilarious!
Edna is played by Jasmine Elcock. She is funny and feisty with an excellent voice. She has only recently graduated from Drama school and I think she has a great career ahead of her. The other two friends, Brianna and Jules, are played by Miracle Chance and Mary Malone respectively.
They are also excellent all rounders with Mary Malone being particularly funny! Harry, the pop idol they all love so much is played by Thomas Grant who both looks and sounds like a teenage pop sensation!
The ensemble work is excellent and there are some great effects from sound and lighting, including a confetti cannon that sent me home with bits of silver in my hair and clothing!
All in all this was a great fun night out so get out there and buy tickets for you and your teenage children! You will all have a great time!
