There can be few people who haven’t seen this iconic movie and the show sticks really closely to it with the addition of some great songs, dance routines and really clever effects.
The part of Marty McFly is a real tour de force. He carries the show and is never off stage, being involved in most of the music and dancing. All the more amazing then, when you realise that Vasco Emauz who played Marty has only just graduated and this is his first professional theatre role! He was excellent throughout! What a way to start your career!
Lee Ormsby was the alternate Doc Brown. He was suitably “mad” and very funny indeed. He was also a good singer and mover. Marty’s parents, George and Linda McFly were played by Orlando Gibbs and Patricia Wilkins respectively. They were both excellent having to play two different ages in the 80’s and the 50’s Orlando was particularly geeky and awkward. A very good physical performance indeed!
Possibly my personal favourite was C.J. Borger who played Mayor Goldie Wilson and Marvin Berry. He made the scene in the Diner his own with sassy dialogue and a brilliant song that absolutely stopped the show! I loved him.
I was amazed at how well this piece has transferred from the screen to the stage. This was in large part due to the effects. The clever lighting came right out into the auditorium to give, along with the back projection, the effect of the car travelling at speed and there were plenty of flashes and smoke effects too.
The effect of the car at the end was something to behold! It’s very hard to imagine anyone not being excited by this show and I shall definitely be booking tickets to take my family for a fantastic five star evening out!
